    The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.

    We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.

    These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won't be solved by science alone.

    We are looking for a Senior Compensation Specialist to join our Reward & Wellbeing team.

    Where in Wellcome will I be working?

    You will be working in the People Team in Reward and Wellbeing. You will report to the Compensation and Recognition Manager and be an integral team member of this small team.

    The team are responsible for ensuring that reward and recognition supports the Wellcome culture and that people working at Wellcome feel valued and can thrive.

    What will I be doing?

    In this role you will contribute to helping Wellcome achieve its strategic objectives. You will play a key part in ensuring that the annual cycle of compensation and recognition activities are delivered accurately and to time as well as leading, designing or delivering other ad hoc projects.

    As a Senior Compensation Specialist, you will :

  • Partner with the Compensation and Recognition Lead to design and deliver the annual Compensation Review process, including ensuring compensation proposals are in line with the pay policy and philosophy.
  • Participate in and oversee reward and recognition related projects, such as pay gap reporting and the equal pay audit and lead significant parts to address issues, present findings to senior leaders and transform or significantly improve policies, practices and process.
  • Manage the operation and administration of deferred compensation plans and prepare Remuneration Committee materials relating to these and other areas.
  • Provide compensation advisory support and oversight to the Compensation Adviser on all compensation issues including market benchmarking, participation and analysis of market data surveys, job evaluation, market trends and compensation approach and structure.
  • Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments. You will act as a trusted reward business partner providing guidance and best course of action to the HR Business Partners, People team and the business.
  • Through networks and other relevant forums, keep up-to-date with monitoring external statutory, legal and other best practice trends which may have an impact on Wellcome's reward practices and principles and propose amendments where appropriate
  • Is this job for me?

    We are looking for an experienced Compensation professional with a deep understanding of Reward and Recognition. You need to have broad experience of building successful relationships and influencing at a senior management level and will need to be resilient, adaptable and able to react to changing business requirements.

    We are looking for someone who has:

  • In-depth experience of delivering an annual reward cycle and building complex pay models
  • Track record of leading and delivering reward-related projects, working independently to tight timescales and
  • Demonstrable experience of all aspects of incentive plan design and governance
  • In-depth experience of analysis and interpretation of market compensation benchmarking data as well as a variety of job evaluation methodologies
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills with the ability to interpret and present data in a manner that is easy and clear to understand
  • Experience in maintaining and managing data on HRIS, with strong quantitative, analytical and conceptual problem-solving skills

    Our Hybrid Way of Working

    We understand that our colleagues have commitments and personal interests outside of work and we strive to build a flexible working environment, in which people can perform at their best. We are currently working 2 days per week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) from our Euston Road offices (as part of our hybrid Ways of Working) with the remaining 3 days working either remotely or in the office.

    From 1st September 2024 we will move to 3 days in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) with the remaining 2 days working either remotely or in the office.
