    Registered Nurse Required for NHS - London, United Kingdom - Barts Health NHS Trust

    The Acute Medicine team at the Royal London Hospital is looking to appoint an outstanding individual to the post of Sister/Charge Nurse within the Acute Admissions Unit (AAU).

    Closely supported by a team of 3 Band 7 Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses and working together as part of a large team of Band 6 Sisters/Charge Nurses, we will help you to develop your role as a leader within the exciting field of acute medicine.

    We admit patients directly from A& E and ambulatory care to our 52 bedded AAU and aim to provide an exceptional standard of care whilst maintaining the flow of patients throughout the hospital.

    You will work closely with our dedicated team of 12 acute medical consultants as well as teams from all other medical specialties.

    We are able to provide level 1A care for more acutely unwell patients and have 8 beds with cardiac monitors.

    We also have a specialist frailty team who provides care for up to 10 patients within the AAU.

    Support and development from your Band 7 nursing team , including Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses and a dedicated Practice Development Nurse for the Acute Admissions Unit.

    An opportunity to work alongside a dynamic consultant body who are breaking new boundaries within the field of outpatient and inpatient emergency care medicine.

    To provide the highest standard of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualized, holistic patient care in conjunction with the inter-professional team.

    As a proficient practitioner in adult nursing, the post holder acts as a professional role model and clinical teacher.

    They provide effective mentorship and preceptorship, participating in the education and training of nursing and non-nursing staff.

    They will take charge of the Acute Admissions Unit as required, liaising closely with the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse to ensure effective and safe patient care.

    Demonstrate clear knowledge of issues affecting medical pateints. Demonstrate clear knowledge of the nursing care needed by medical patients.

    Develop skills in accordance with the expanded role relevant to the postholders clinical area such as cannulation and phlebotomy and patient healthpromotion/education.

    Educates patients and relatives about how to adopt healthy lifestyles, andlook after their own health and wellbeing. Identifies and helps patients, relatives and staff to reduce any risks associatedwith health and wellbeing. Ensures patients views are taken into account in the decision makingprocess. Participates in meeting the health education and promotes the needs ofpatients and carers. Communication is a fundamental process to ensure continuity and highstandards of care.

    A key responsibility will be to utilise a variety of strategies to communicateeffectively with patients and those involved in their care.

    Keeps accurate and complete records of activities and communicationsconsistent with legislation, policies and procedures.6 The post holder must at all time work in accordance with the NMC Code ofProfessional Conduct Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of research, audit and qualityinitiatives and how this influence nursing practice.

    Support the ward manager with performance management of key indicatorssuch as health and safety, ward accreditation. Support the ward manager in investigating and responding to accidents,complaints, untoward incident and other significant events. Monitors the quality of own works and alerts others to quality issues. The post holder must at all times carry out duties and responsibilities withregard to the Trusts Equal Opportunity policy.     Post registration experience including recent experience within an acute hospital setting.

    Phlebotomy/Cannulation skills
    Can show a non-judgemental approach to patient care
    Ability to carry out essential and appropriate nursing care and procedures
    Demonstrate awareness of the nursing care needed by a wide range of medical patients under varying specialities.
    Ability to monitor the quality of own work and others
