    Harassment and Bullying - Advisor/Officer Training
    Introduction
    This course has been designed forthose staff with responsibility as contact person for employees complaining ofharassment and bullying.

    Their role requires them to obtain accurate facts fromthe employees of their complaint and assess the circumstances, strength andclarity of the case; also to advise the employee on their position (possiblyexplain options etc) and help support them in dealing with their work situation.

    This course focuses in particular on the interpersonalskills necessary in working with both the complainants and those havingcomplaints brought against them.

    The Course Covers

    Harassment and bullying:
    definition of terms
    Clarification of the role and what that means inpractice


    Core communication skills:
    Listening skills
    Verbal and non-verbal skills

    Developing the right relationship:
    Rapport and trust
    Objectivity and clear, professional boundaries
    Clarifying the issues and assessing the case
    Questioning and fact-finding skills
    Basic Counselling Skills
    The function and purpose of counselling in thecontext of harassment

    Counselling style and approach:
    recognising personalstyle, and understanding different interventions and responses. (Thisenables participants to examine their patterns and preferences, andunderstand the effect of different types of responses in counsellingsituations and what options may best achieve what 'harassment counselling'intends.)
