    We now have an exciting opportunity to join us on a permanent basis as an Associate or Senior Associate within our Legal, Technical & Claims division of the Howden CAP business. The position is based from our office in Borough Market, London.

    We are seeking a qualified Solicitor who will review and lead a suite of tax and contingent risk (TCR), Warranty & Indemnity (W&I) and Title policy wordings, and provide ongoing ad hoc wordings support to brokers within the TCR, W&I and Title teams. You will also run claims under the W&I and TCR policies across several jurisdictions including policy advice to clients and internal partners. The role will report to the Head of Legal, Technical & Claims, Howden CAP.

    Key areas of focus

    Policy wordings:

  • Review and amend wordings to improve wording for policyholder. Negotiate agreed wordings with insurers where appropriate and lead on an ongoing basis.
  • Implement lessons learned from claims and legal developments as the need arises.
  • Support placing brokers with policy wording negotiations during live deal.
  • Claims:

  • Coordinate clients' claims in accordance with the relevant Company and/or Group policies to achieve targets, develop the business and deliver an excellent and comprehensive service.
  • Review and respond to incoming enquiries from clients, insurers and third parties
  • Review and prepare notifications, manage the claims process, consider coverage and deal with settlements
  • Negotiate with markets to achieve the best outcome for the client
  • Build comprehensive and accurate documents detailing claim facts and coverage issues
  • Ensure up to date records are maintained at all times on the Company systems and ensure are filed correctly across all internal systems
  • Develop positive relationships with markets
  • Advise on policy wording improvements based on insurance law and claims experience
  • Record key claims data, compile statistical reports and communicate claims trends and developments.
  • Prepare and assist with preparation of marketing documents
  • Prepare and assist with internal training on claims and insurance law
  • Complete accurate claims administration tasks internally and on CLASS/ECF
  • You

  • Qualified Solicitor – c. 5-10 years PQE.
  • Claims and coverage experience either within an Insurer or Claims team.
  • Basic technical knowledge of the details of FCA regulations as they pertain to insurance intermediaries.
  • Understanding of the general principles of UK insurance and contract law.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – confident and able to create a positive impression.
