    • To hold and apply excellent knowledge of fundraising best practice, confidentiality and data protection.
    • To work as part of the wider Free to Be team, supporting where needed to ensure that the charity is doing all it can to meet the needs of the deeply vulnerable children it exists to support.

    Attendance on Residential Projects

Our residential projects are immersive, exhausting in all the right ways, and full of opportunities for very vulnerable children to feel included, valued and successful. Children usually spend 5 days at a time with us – many will paddle in the sea for the first time, play hide and seek in the woods, build rafts, canoe across lakes, visit farms, forests, ruined castles and splash through streams. A small number of projects are camping based, but most run from a variety of residential centres which we hire for the purpose. The majority of projects take place between Easter and the end of October half term, particularly in the July-August school holidays.

You'll play a key role in at least 1-2 residential projects a year, taking on a variety of roles from working intensively with groups of vulnerable children as a group leader, to supporting the catering or other logistics roles, dependent upon your interests. Full training and support will be provided and we are not expecting prior experience working with young people, though a keenness to spend time alongside them and 'walk the walk' of being on 1-2 projects a year is essential. We are looking for candidates who will value the authenticity this approach brings to fundraising and the togetherness and shared endeavour that spending time alongside the rest of the staff team in this way helps to create.

    Important Notes about this Position

Note 1: Core working hours are Monday to Friday, 10am to 4.30pm. There is flexibility to choose how you make up the rest of your hours outside of these by agreement with the CEO. We are office based (London Waterloo) when not on residentials, though hybrid working is the established norm.

Note 2: Weekend and late working is an ordinary part of Free to Be's residential projects. All staff attending a residential are working with Free to Be given two 'rest days' (in effect, days off) which are always taken immediately after return from a residential. We do not run a time off in lieu system in relation to residentials and the extra hours worked during these times are instead returned via the 3 pre-set reward days off at Christmas each year.

Note 3: Attendance at a minimum of 1-2 residential projects each year (each totaling approximately 5-6 days and nights) is a requirement of the role. Some additional non-overnight travel may also be required. Car ownership is not required.

    Person Specification

This is an exciting opportunity to join our young, ambitious charity and play a key part in its growth over the coming years. The role would suit someone who has built strong experience within the charity fundraising space or equivalent experience elsewhere, and is now looking to progress to the first rung of management, or is an established fundraising manager looking to move organisations. We are particularly interested in candidates with strong experience in Corporates, Events, and higher 5 figure Trusts & Foundations fundraising, to supplement the team's existing skillset.

The successful candidate will have excellent written, presentation and networking skills, be highly organized, have great attention to detail, sharp as a button, self-motivated and a good team player. More than anything else, we're looking for the right person who is fast paced, flexible and passionate enough to go the extra mile for children who deeply deserve our support.
