    Clean Air Fund is a philanthropic initiative that works around the world with governments, campaigners, researchers, funders and businesses to create a world where everyone breathes clean air.

    We all need clean air to live and thrive. Yet 9 out of 10 people breathe harmful, dirty air, making air pollution one of our biggest health threats.

    Over 7 million people die every year as a result of air pollution – more than twice as many as from malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS combined. The poorest communities are often hit the hardest. Babies, children and older people suffer most.

    But it's far from only a health problem. Tackling air pollution can also help mitigate climate change and support economic development.

    By reducing air pollution, we can save and improve millions of lives. We can also tackle climate change, build fairer societies and strengthen economies. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join us as Programmes Director, leading the Programmes team and taking responsibility for the design and execution of our national and regional programmes. The role oversees a rapidly growing grant-making portfolio which currently stands at $20-25m per annum.

    Our organisation is more than doubling in size each year; the Programmes Director leads the largest team in Clean Air Fund and will supervise its significant growth both in existing and new geographies. As a key member of the executive team, the Programmes Director is expected to take collective ownership with peers and the Executive Director for leading Clean Air Fund; significantly contributing to the organisation's strategic direction, to operational processes, and to developing and maintaining a healthy organisational culture.

    The successful candidate will bring a track record of outstanding leadership experience and skills, leading and managing high performing teams in different locations around the world. They will be able to demonstrate significant experience in programme design and implementation, including monitoring, changing course if necessary and scaling successful approaches.

    The ideal Programmes Director will have considerable experiencing in recruiting and leading high performing international teams. They will be able to influence and building effective strategic partnerships with ministers, senior civil society leaders and philanthropic donors. Most importantly, they will support Clean Air Fund's mission of clean air for all. While a background in air pollution is not essential, knowledge of air quality, climate, environment and/or health would be desirable.

    • The role will be based in London, and visa sponsorship for those without the right to work in the UK is available. Candidates based in Clean Air Fund's other offices, Delhi or Accra, may also be considered.
