    Chemonics UK was established in 2019 and has quickly developed a strong and diverse portfolio of UK Aid-funded programmes. Chemonics UK works with government and development sector counterparts across three continents to deliver programmes in sectors including climate action, education, governance, peacebuilding, stabilisation, social cohesion, and research.

    Position Overview:

    The new business senior manager provides mid-level management of the new business strategy. The senior manager performs multiple high-level roles as needed for business development. Contributes to corporate strategy, technical practices, and staff development and supervision. Manages proposal teams and shares internal and external knowledge with others on complex matters. Contributes technical knowledge and liaises with technical practices to coordinate technical inputs and review of proposals. The senior manager leads communications with external clients, manages team members, and supports and manages bid preparation to completion. Ensures adherence with company policies, applicable laws and regulations, and procurement or contract requirements.

    Responsibilities:

    Development Management and Pipeline Management

    • Leads and supports budgeting, operating expense management, backlog goal setting and performance tracking, and sales forecasting.
    • Initiates and develops effective working relationships, and independently leads relationship management, with clients, potential partners, counterparts, stakeholders, delivery partners, technical specialists, and donor agencies.
    • Identifies and develops new business leads, clearly identifying Chemonics' role in current international development assistance programmes and trends.
    • Tracks opportunities and manages information in corporate systems disseminating throughout bid teams and new business line leadership.
    • Takes initiative to identify business opportunities, efficiencies, and cost savings.
    • Proactively identifies potential risks to Chemonics' success in the forward market and develops plans and strategies to address them including advising divisional leadership on potential steps to lessen impact or mitigate those risks.
    • Identifies opportunities for knowledge- and solution-sharing across the company and takes initiative to build staff and company capacity
    • Externally promotes Chemonics by attending events, networking with clients, and displaying a clear understanding of the past and present portfolio and corporate history.
    • Travels to conduct information-gathering regarding new business efforts, including meeting with the client and potential delivery partners; informs decision-makers regarding strategy, delivery partners, and other partners on proposal efforts.
    • Develops effective working relationships with existing and potential clients, counterparts and stakeholders and continually promotes outstanding client service with corporate office staff and project teams.
    • May contribute dedicated time to other workstreams and functions to achieve strategic goals, including operations, project management, and technical practice contributions.
    • May provide technical and/or operational support via short-term assignments to projects in areas of expertise including but not limited to start-up/close-out, operations, MEL, and grants management.
    • Support and, under the supervision of the director of new business, may lead the development of proposal staffing approaches and identifies resources.
    • Oversees management of new business consultants, including timesheet management and ensuring payments are processed for consultant

    Technical

    • Proactively engages in technical practice of relevance to areas of interest or focus, sharing information and best practices learned with the company; this includes a strategic view to connect the practice and proposal efforts in support of enhanced competitiveness and technical leadership goals of the practice.
    • Builds subject matter expertise and contributes to the technical practices, business line, and corporate priorities.
    • Promotes Chemonics by identifying opportunities for and attending external events, networking with clients and counterparts, articulating a solid understanding of Chemonics' past and present portfolio; effectively representing the company's history, values, and standards; and identifying and developing new business leads.
    • Provides technical contributions in areas of expertise including but not limited to education, peace & stability, governance, economic growth, trade, agriculture, climate change, natural resources & sustainability, health, and social inclusion

    Business Development

    • Takes initiative to support new business efforts, including growing personal network of industry contacts; assuming capture and live proposal roles; and building expertise to assume increasing levels of leadership roles on proposals, including as technical writer, commercial or proposal lead in addition to other roles as needed.
    • Screens potential sub-award partners and makes engagement recommendations to the new business manager and/or director.
    • Provides quality assurance reviews for proposal deliverables.
    • Develops and manages complex proposal strategies in collaboration with director of new business and senior leadership to optimize profitability and win rate.

    Management and Leadership

    • Learns and promotes strategies for effective teamwork and leadership development and cultivates collaborative working relationships across the company.
    • Manages, develops, and evaluates assigned staff, mentors' new managers.
    • Demonstrates inclusive behaviours and leadership consistent with Chemonics' values and leadership competencies.
    • Provides organizational, planning, and management oversight to the new business team; facilitates meetings, trainings strategy sessions, and other events.
    • · Serves as acting new business director and performs other duties as required.

    UK-Qualifications:

    · Degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience required; advanced degree preferred.

    Demonstrated business development experience of progressive complexity including proposal preparation, ensuring contractual compliance, staff supervisory and mentorship, and knowledge of the client experience required.

    • Thorough understanding of client requirements and preferred methods of business
    • Fluency in administrative, accounting, and management systems, with a demonstrated experience mentoring staff in these areas
    • Experience in writing proposal or report sections.
    • Demonstrated leadership on a proposal team, including writing complex proposals.
    • Demonstrated experience multitasking with attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
    • Works independently and as part of a team
    • Demonstrated resourcefulness in problem-solving and initiative to learn new skills.
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
    • Previous experience working in international development and/or living or conducting work in developing countries preferred.
    • Working proficiency in multiple languages preferred given global forward market.
    • Willingness to travel up to 8 weeks per year.
    • UK work authorization or ability to obtain it required.
