    About the Role

    At SSEN Transmission, we have a critical role to play in supporting delivery of UK and Scottish Government targets to tackle the climate emergency and secure the country's future energy independence, as we deliver a network for net zero emissions in the north of Scotland, securing power for future generations.

    We're looking to recruit a highly motivated, energetic, passionate and experienced Head of Communications and Brand responsible for proactively communicating how we're enabling the transition to a net zero and energy secure future and driving economic growth.

    As part of the Corporate Affairs Transmission team, you will be responsible for leading SSEN Transmission's traditional and digital communication and brand and marketing activities, working closely with colleagues across the business and the wider industry to help meet business objectives and support the transition to net zero emissions.

    Base Location: Aberdeen, Inverness, Glasgow, London or Perth

    Salary: £63,000 - £94,400 (depending on skills and experience) + car/car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

    Key responsibilities for this role will include:

    Leading a team of digital and traditional communication professionals responsible for planning and executing all external communications activities and external facing channels across SSEN Transmission.

    Effectively and proactively plan, manage and execute compelling and engaging integrated paid for an earned external communications plans and strategies, working with colleagues across the Corporate Affairs team and wider transmission business to contribute to the delivery of key strategic objectives.

    Build, promote and enhance the profile, aims, values and reputation of the business brand through external communications, public and media relations; proactively protecting and enhancing the reputation of SSEN Transmission with key stakeholders, from our regulator, governments and elected representatives; to the communities we serve, the customers connected to our network and wider industry stakeholders.

    Proactively build and enhance relationships with key journalists and publications, acting as a spokesperson for SSEN Transmission, as well as advising and briefing senior business leaders on media strategies and broadcast opportunities.

    Developing reporting and performance metrics to measure and improve the reach and sentiment of written and digital communication activities and brand marketing campaigns, looking across the industry and beyond to adopt new and innovative ideas and ways of working to support communication goals and business objectives.

    What do I need?

    To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

    Exceptional communications skills and experience, both written and verbal, with a passion for storytelling and the role of traditional media, as well as the opportunity to self-publish using new media techniques including digital, broadcast and social content, to communicate the positive contribution that SSEN Transmission is making to the social, environmental and economic wellbeing of the regions in which the company is operating to a wide range of external audiences.

    First class interpersonal skills enabling you to build and maintain strong working relationships internally and externally with the ability to translate and clearly communicate complex and often technical issues in a simple and compelling way to build credibility and trust with external stakeholders and within the business.

    Demonstrable, extensive experience and a proven track record of delivering high quality communications and media engagement, and brand marketing campaigns, with an in depth understanding of the media landscape, political and societal trends.

    Open and flexible work style to adapt to changing priorities and a dynamic external environment, with an ability to work in a pressurised environment to tight deadlines and a willingness to commit to and deliver long-term strategic objectives.

    Managerial experience and a background in the energy industry.
