    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly specialist SLT with clinical specialism in developmental language disorder to join Bexley Children's SLT service.

    Whilst delivering specialist assessment & intervention to children & young people, you will also be instrumental in shaping & influencing SLT clinical service delivery with these client groups.

    You will have a track record of delivering evidence based interventions, responsibility for care pathways & of training & supervising staff.


    The postholder will have experience in SEND/EHCP, contributing & leading on improvements in practice across the service in both mainstream and RP settings, providing support for colleagues & be involved in multi-disciplinary working with the London Borough of Bexley SEND team.


    You will work within the integrated Bexley Joint Communication Team, made up of Therapists, Assistants & Advisory Teacher (from Bexley Local Authority).

    This part of the role involves visits to mainstream schools, assessment, recommendations to schools & opportunities to deliver training together with colleagues.

    The role involves advice to enable parents, carers & teaching staff to support the children. You will deliver specific EHCP SLT provision/commissioned care packages.

    Provide highly specialist assessment & intervention to children & young people referred to the service, with areas of clinical specialism in developmental language disorder (DLD)
    Assess the need for, develop & implement evidence-based speech & language therapy interventions to children with a wide range of speech, language & communication difficulties, including their areas of specialisms
    Provide highly specialist second opinions to other speech & language therapists /external professionals & support in the training & development of colleagues within the team

    Plan & organise outreach support to therapists working in other Bexley SLT teams - clinic, mainstream settings to support children achieve the best possible communication & mental health outcomes.

    The Bexley Childrens Speech & Language Therapy service is a dynamic & supportive team, offering opportunities for continuing professional development in your clinical specialism.

    The service has excellent internal supervision & support structures & would provide the ideal environment to develop clinical skills & contribute towards operational projects to support service development.


    The post holder will understand and meet professional and legal SEND responsibilities outlined in the Children and Families Act 2014 including contributing to statutory assessments of special educational needs and delivery of Speech and Language Therapy provision as specified in childrens Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

    To co-ordinate SEND audits and have overview of SEND policies, both nationally and locally.

    To work in partnership with parents /carers and education staff, to support them to develop their knowledge, skills, and confidence with regard to developing independence and management of the childs/young persons communication skills.

    To meet with parents, children and young people, taking and responding to feedback to develop care pathways and the quality of child and parent information.

    To take a clinical specialist role in the development of local clinical guidelines informed by evidence for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).

    To lead on service development projects and initiatives.

    To attend relevant training and development in order to maintain and develop skills and knowledge required of a highly specialist therapist and maintain up to date HCPC and RCSLT registration.

    To demonstrate knowledge of, and adhere to RCSLT Professional, National and Local Clinical Guidelines with particular reference to SLCN and DLD.

    To develop and deliver specialist training to parents, young people and professionals in specialist area.

    To keep up to date with new techniques and developments for the promotion and maintenance of good practice in specialist area.

    To provide second opinions/advice to non-specialists and other specialists within clinical field.
    To be flexible to the demands of the environment including unpredictable work patterns, deadlines and frequent interruptions.

    To work within infection control and health and safety guidelines in order to deal appropriately with conditions related to client contact as they arise: for example exposure to body fluids, infectious conditions.

    To develop and facilitate team objectives relating to areas of clinical specialisms in liaison with Line Manager, ensuring a seamless service for children/young people up to 19 years.

    To develop protocols/policies/training packages in liaison with Line Manager and other professionals for improvement to client care and integrated care.

    To lead on the implementation of relevant service clinical governance initiatives, with support from Line Manager.

    To support the implementation of outcome measure initiatives within service, ensuring robust analysis takes place on a timely basis.

    To contribute to interagency/multi-disciplinary team building and integrated policy development.
    Monitoring/actioning referrals, supporting junior staff members.

    To identify personal/professional development evidenced by PDR developed within an appraisal framework including objectives relating to speech disorder and DLD.

    To assume delegated tasks as requested by service leads, including taking the lead in working groups and policy development groups.

    To be aware of, adhere to and implement service, CYP and Trust plans and policies.
