    Allstate operate a very flexible hybrid working policy that will allow you to design your working week in collaboration with your manager with a blend of remote and office working for NI based employees as well as condensed working patterns (4 day week/9 day fortnight). Employees based in GB will be employed on a permanent remote working contract.

    Your role in the team

    The AI/Data Acceleration team pioneers' transformative innovations by harnessing AI to tackle Allstate's most complex challenges with an interdisciplinary, forward-thinking approach. As Tech Lead and coach within the AI/Data Accelerator team you will:

  • Lead a highly talented diverse team.
  • Be encouraged to continuously learn new skills, technologies, and tools.
  • Identify areas for innovation and have the freedom to explore and test out your ideas in PoCs.
  • Play a critical role in the design, development, and deployment of intelligent automation tools.
  • Mentor, coach and inspire member of your team.
  • You'll be closely working with a Digital Product Manager and Platform Consultant to create ML experiments, PoC's and work with engineering teams to move high impact projects to production.

    An ideal Machine Learning Engineer candidate should demonstrate:

  • Inquisitive nature, with a deep understanding of both technical and business aspects
  • Data-driven decision maker, combining robust analytical thinking with sound business judgment.
  • Excellent communicator with both technical and non-technical team members, and dynamic leadership skills with the ability to inspire teams.
  • Effective manager with a passion for fostering leadership and high performance within the team.
  • Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts and ability to guide the team in developing and implementing AI/ML solutions.
  • Comfortable with hands-on involvement in AI/ML experimentation and model development
  • Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Lead AI/ML projects with a hands-on approach, demonstrating technical expertise and generating value.
  • Manage a team of highly skilled Machine Learning Engineers, fostering innovation and promoting collaboration.
  • Offer hands-on mentorship and coaching to your team, promoting continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Evaluate and integrate the latest open-source libraries, tools, and platforms into the team's technology stack.
  • Participate in the ideation and refinement of AI product concepts, guiding solutions from concept to minimum viable product (MVP) stage.
  • Use your industry experience to bring new value to the business, advising on resource allocation and business needs.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, other AI/ML teams, and various Business teams to manage and implement the corporate AI/ML strategy.
  • Manage the AI/ML project backlog, contribute to the creation of an effective vision, and provide stakeholders with timely feedback on development iterations.
  • Establish best practices, processes, and standards for efficient and high-quality prototyping and model development.
  • Stay immersed in the broader AI community, attending conferences, and fostering academic partnerships.
  • So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

  • All applicants must demonstrate they have a legal right to work in the UK for employment at Allstate. Allstate is not providing sponsorship for this vacancy.
  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in ML/AI.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience leading ML/AI projects from ideation to production.
  • Experience in leading and managing high-performing technical teams
  • Extensive hands-on experience in applying machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, proficiency with ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Solid understanding of machine learning concepts, algorithms, and techniques (e.g., deep learning, reinforcement learning, natural language processing).
  • Candidates should also be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle and agile development.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to bridge technical and business domains.
  • Passion for continuous learning and driving innovation in the field of AI
  • We also have some desirable criteria

  • Experience with GenAI technologies and techniques e.g., RAG, Transformer fine tuning, vector stores, etc.
  • Prior experience working on prompting and tuning large-language models
  • Experience working with cloud technologies such as Azure/AWS.
  • Experience in leading and managing cross-functional teams.
