    We are looking for a motivated Research Programme Manager who will lead the programme management of over £20 million worth of research to maximise impact into UK government and the private sector.

    Your role at HMC

    We are experts in the practical application of academic research to marine management and have significant experience working with government, its agencies and the research councils to ensure that marine science has maximum impact.

    The Research Programme Manager will lead on the programme management of over £20 million of research funding across three leading UKRI research programmes – ECOWind , ECOFlow and INSITE as well as develop new opportunities for working with the marine policy and research community in the UK and globally.

    You will be working alongside science leads in HMC as well as researchers and policy makers, coordinating and managing activities to achieve research goals and deliver critical impact to help shape future marine policy and delivery, with duties including:

    • Programme management including project monitoring, programme reporting, organisation of meetings and workshops, budget and risk management including contract administration and budget tracking.
    • Managing delivery of impact and programme level scientific objectives, including integration of projects within research programmes and across the UK and global research landscape
    • Working closely with HMC science leads, act as an interface between the research community, government and private sector to develop the delivery of marine science into operational decision making as well as management of external affairs and science profile raising.
    • Networking, keeping up to date with industry trends and technology developments.
    • Contribute to the development of the HMC research impact offering including the development of new research programmes.
    • Writing articles, blogs and supporting the communication of science outputs and HMC's contribution to research impact as well as appearing at conferences on behalf of HMC.
    • Mentoring and managing junior HMC staff.
    • Any other duties required in the spirit of the post

    To succeed in this role, you'll need:

    • Applied experience in government, industry, NGO, academia or consulting.
    • Familiarity with intergovernmental, regional, or national governmental bodies.
    • A collaborative approach and the ability to build strong client and stakeholder relationships.
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience of managing long term research programmes and delivering impact.
    • A strategic and innovative mindset, coupled with the ability to make informed decisions backed by evidence.

    Location and Compensation

    Roles are fully remote and home-based in the UK, with potential domestic and international travel requirements. To be eligible for this role, you must currently reside in the UK and have the legal right to work in the UK.

    The salary range for this role is £43,000 – £49,999. This role is full-time, 37.5 hours per week, but we are open to considering requests for part-time hours or different working patterns.
